- Delhi Capitals chased down 165 to beat Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets in a thrilling WPL 2025 opener.
- Mumbai posted 164, but Delhi’s strong batting secured a last-ball victory.
Delhi Capitals started their WPL 2025 season with a thrilling 2-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, repeating the 2023 final played, in Vadodara.
The match saw bowlers take control, limiting the batting performances, but Delhi managed to secure a last-ball victory and walk away with all the points.
Mumbai, batting first, set a target of 165 for Delhi. They lost early wickets, with Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews both falling to Shikha Pandey, who claimed two crucial early wickets.
A strong partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings, helping Mumbai reach 105/3 after 11 overs. Despite Sciver-Brunt's excellent 80 off 59 balls, regular wickets from Delhi prevented the run rate from accelerating, and Mumbai finished with 164 runs.
In reply, Delhi's openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning gave their side a solid start. Verma’s fiery 43 helped them reach 60 runs in just six overs before she was dismissed. Niki Prasad’s crucial 35 off 33 balls then took the match to the final over, where Delhi sealed a dramatic win on the last ball.
