By: WE Staff | Thursday, 25 January 2024
The highly anticipated cricket tournament of the year marks its second edition this year and the dates for the championship have been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) on Tuesday. The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru and Delhi from February 23 to March 17. The former champion team of the first edition, the Mumbai Indians along with Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz are the five teams that will compete in the tournament. Every team will play two games against every other in a round-robin format during the league stage. While the teams in second and third place will compete in an elimination round, the team at the top of the points table will get a direct ticket to the final match of the tournament. March 17 is the scheduled date of the final match.
All games will take place at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium till March 4. The tournament's final games will be held at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.
There will be 22 games played, including the semifinal and finals. A direct entry into the final will be granted to the team that will secure the top position in the points table. The eliminator game between the second and third-placed teams in the table will determine their opponents.
There will only be one WPL match per day until the league stage is over; there won't be any doubleheaders. Every match will start at 7:30 p.m. IST.
The Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, will compete against Delhi Capitals, the runners-up from the previous season, in the Tata WPL 2024 opening match. Here is the complete schedule of the tournament:
