TATA WPL 2024: 2nd Win for UPW, Wipes out GG by 6 Wickets
By: WE Staff | Saturday, 2 March 2024
After clinching their win against defending champions Mumbai Indians, the players of UP Warriorz next defeated Gujarat Giants by 6 wickets at Match 8 of TATA Women's Premier League (TATA WPL) 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Alyssa Healy led UP Warriorz won the toss and chose to field first. They got off to a good start after defeating Skipper Beth Mooney, the captain of GG during the powerplay. GG, however, struggled in the Powerplay, with Laura Wolvaardt hitting fours off Anjali Sarvani and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. She survived a catch and bowled, but Sophie's splendid spell grabbed Beth Monney's wicket.
The spinners of UPW were hitting the wickets with utmost accuracy restricting GG from getting boundaries. Laura Wolvaardt departed in the 10th over whereas Phoebe Litchfield clinched her first boundary and the very next ball got her off the field. Gujarat Giants secured 142/5 in 20 overs.
In the second innings, Captain Alyssa Healy and Grace Harris led UPW to a 143-run victory, despite 4 crucial wickets. Captain Healy secured 7 fours in 33 runs whereas the highest number of runs chased during the match was 60 off 33 by Grace Harris. This was UPW's two consecutive wins in a row bringing them to the third position in the points table. Grace Harris is now the orange cap holder and was awarded Player of the Match for her astonishing performance.
