  • Tata Steel intends to deploy female workers on all three shifts in its Jamshedpur facility
  • Approximately 543 women representing 21 departments will be involved, beginning from February 1 next year
  • Deployment will be phased after government regulatory acceptance

In an effort to create gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace, Tata Steel has unveiled its plan to engage women workers on all three shifts at its Jamshedpur plant.

The company stated that about 543 women from 21 departments would work three shifts starting on February 1, with onboarding occurring in phases.

This initiative follows approval from the regulatory authority of the government and marks a key achievement towards Tata Steel’s overall Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) journey.

This objective is a pathway for women under the company's "Udaan: Wings of Change" initiative, geared towards empowering women and developing alternative heterogeneous workplaces.

On the initiative, Atrayee Sanyal, Tata Steel Chief People Officer, stated that facilitating women to join three-shift operations opens up more opportunities and builds a robust organisation through diversified thinking.

She further added that the company has put in place a robust support system so as to maintain the safety, security, well-being, and career development of its women workforce.
