The recent 'Women in Mining' conclave, a high-powered meet under the leadership of the Directorate General of Mines Safety, was hosted by Tata Steel at Ranchi. Indeed, this day-long session with the theme 'Transforming Today, Redefining Tomorrow', became an event wherein policy makers, mining executives, and women industry practitioners congregated to examine the emerging opportunities for gender integration in the mining industry.
With the updated code allowing women in key mining areas, the conclave reinforced industry momentum toward gender-inclusive operations. The event featured a special recognition segment to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of women teams and speakers across participating organisations.

Discussions centered on progressive policies, women’s leadership, capability building, and expanding participation across operational and allied mining roles. The eminent speakers called for stronger gender-supportive ecosystems, while Tata Steel reinforced its focus on advancing fair and modern mining practices.
Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, WIM, Coal India Limited, Hindustan Zinc, NTPC, Singareni Collieries, Lloyds Metals, and JSW Steel, presented their initiatives during the industry presentation. The concluding session also reinforced the agenda and value of collective engagement across stakeholders-a first major step toward a fairer and more gender-inclusive mining sector.
