The HCL 79th National Squash Championship will be held in Chennai from Friday 17 November 2023. The Squash Racket Federation of India (SRFI) has awarded the tournament a five-star rating, and the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) has designated it as a silver event.
Indian top-seeded players Abhay Singh of Tamil Nadu and Tanvi Khanna of Delhi are the top seeds in the men’s and women’s events, respectively. The Indian Squash and Triathlon Academy will host the championship for the seventh time, from Friday to Thursday.
In Joshna's absence, Tanvi has been given the top billing, with Anahat Singh of Delhi and Urwashi Joshi of Maharashtra coming in at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Abhay, who is ranked second in the men's event behind West Bengal's Ramit Tandon and the local favorite Velavan Senthilkumar, is eager to defend his title.
A regular member of the Indian squash team, Tanvi Khanna is a professional squash player of Indian descent. In the world rankings, she is currently ranked 69th.
Tanvi's career has been so far very successful. In the individual competition at the 2019 South Asian Games, which were held in Nepal, she won the gold medal. She also grabbed the title of the championship for the Women's North Coast Open in 2023. Furthermore, from 2016 to 2018, she was named to the first team of the All-Ivy League for three years in a row.
