Smriti Mandhana scripted another milestone in women’s cricket on Tuesday, becoming the first woman cricketer to score 11,000 international runs. The India opener reached the landmark during the Asian Games 2026 gold-medal final against Sri Lanka at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.

Smriti entered the final needing 13 runs to reach 11,000, having accumulated 10,987 runs across Tests, ODIs and T20Is. She completed the feat in the early stages of India’s innings, reaching the landmark with a six in the third over.
The milestone came during an attacking innings from the left-hander, who went on to score 79 off 45 deliveries, striking five fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 175.56. Her innings provided the foundation for India’s imposing total of 216/3 in 20 overs.
Smriti shared a 99-run opening partnership with Shafali Verma, who contributed 48 from 29 balls. Richa Ghosh then produced a powerful late cameo, remaining unbeaten on 49 off 22 deliveries as India posted the highest total in women’s cricket at the Asian Games.
Smriti’s 11,000-run landmark adds to a series of records she has broken in recent weeks. Earlier in September, she surpassed former India captain Mithali Raj’s tally of 10,868 international runs to become the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She subsequently overtook New Zealand’s Suzie Bates to become the highest run-scorer in women’s T20I cricket.
The 30-year-old has built her international tally across all three formats. Before the Asian Games final, she had scored 788 runs in nine Tests, 5,411 in 120 ODIs and 4,788 in T20Is. Her career also includes 18 international centuries, making her the leading century-maker in women’s international cricket.
Smriti’s record-breaking run has also included a milestone in the Asia Cup, where her century against Hong Kong earlier this month took her past the previous record of 17 international centuries in women’s cricket.
Her latest achievement came in a significant match for India, with the team facing Sri Lanka in a repeat of the 2023 Asian Games final. India entered the contest seeking to defend the gold medal won in Hangzhou.
Smriti’s landmark therefore arrived alongside another strong contribution to India’s title defence, underlining her sustained impact across formats. With her 79-run knock helping India reach 216/3, the opener combined a historic individual achievement with a major performance on the Asian Games stage.
