Smriti Mandhana Reclaims Top Spot in ICC Women's ODI Ranking

  • Smriti Mandhana has switched back to the first spot in the latest ICC Women’s ODI batswomen rankings
  • She replaced South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt as the top batter

India’s Smriti Mandhana climbed to the No.1 spot in the ICC Women’s ODI Index, taking over the title from South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt.

There were positive advances for both South African and Irish players after their first match which took place at East London on October 2nd, ending with South Africa defeating Ireland by seven wickets after chasing down a target of 210 within 37 overs, thanks to contributions from Sune Luus and Miane Smit, both of whom scored half-centuries.

Sune efforts saw her rise five positions to a tie for 31st place in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings. Smriti regained her status as the top-ranked female ODI batter for the time being with an unchanged score of 811 rating points; Wolvaardt dropped from 814 rating points to 806 total rating points after finishing the match second place with a score of 31.

Sune also climbed 10 spots to share 33rd place on the list of Multi-Sector All-Rounders and Republic of Ireland’s Orla Prendergast and Laura Delany made gains climbing to 10th and sharing 16th on the Multi-Sector All-Rounders rankings.

With respect to ICC Women's ODI bowling rankings, Prendergast climbed two spots from 36th position to 34th with her performance (1 for 34) during the match, other Republic of Ireland bowlers who made gains included Arlene Kelly, Cara Murray, and Laura Delany, and South Africa's Tumi Sekhukhune climbed seven places to the rank of 78th after taking two wickets in
