- The activists called for 30% reservations for women in Bar Council elections
The women advocates practicing in the Telangana High Court organized a protest on Monday afternoon outside Gate Number 6 in support of their demand for the application of the 30 percent reservation in the upcoming election of the Bar Council in January 2026. The protest event aimed to raise their worries about the exclusion of women in the election process.
The protest is being led by advocate T. Rajitha, who said that the Bar Council has failed to respond to repeated demands for the implementation of reservation for women advocates.
She pointed out that other State Bar Councils had already implemented reservation policies for women in a move to boost women’s presence in the profession.
Rajitha reported that the Bar Council chairperson, A. Narasimha Reddy, has not sent a required recommendation or no objection to the Bar Council of India, which is essential for implementing the reservation policy.
Along with this, the delay has also affected woman representation in the upcoming election, according to the protesters.
