- The vice-captain of India Smriti Mandhana, has been nominated for the May 2025 ICC Women's Player of the Month award
- Her nomination comes after she played well in last month's ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka
After her outstanding performances during the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, India's vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, has been shortlisted for the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for May 2025. South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon, who also put on impressive performances in limited-overs cricket last month, and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews join her.
With a total of 204 runs in three games, including an incredible 123 off 101 balls against South Africa, Mandhana was instrumental in India's victory in the tri-series. In the final against the hosts, Sri Lanka, she also scored 44 runs.
The top-ranked T20I and No. 2 ODI all-rounder in the world, Hayley Matthews, maintained her impressive play. In the first ODI against England at Derby, she took two wickets and scored 48 runs. She was named Player of the Series for the previous three-match T20I series after taking three wickets and topping the scoring chart with 177 runs at a strike rate above 137.
Chloe made an impact with the bat and the ball during the same tri-series. She scored 176 runs at a strike rate of 131.34, including 67 against India and 35 and 74 in the two games against Sri Lanka. The effectiveness of her left-arm spin was especially evident in her 5 for 34 spell, which included a hat-trick against Sri Lanka.
Three all-round players, Muhammad Waseem (UAE), Milind Kumar (USA), and Brendon McMullen (Scotland), have been nominated in the men's division. In five ODIs, McMullen amassed 233 runs and claimed 10 wickets. During the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 in Utrecht, he distinguished himself with an all-around performance of 101 off 88 balls and four wickets against the Netherlands.
Milind Kumar scored 201 runs at a strike rate of 116.86 in four ODIs and claimed nine wickets. His brilliant 115 off 67 balls against Canada was his best showing. He also became the first American cricketer to score a half-century and take five wickets in the same ODI during the match against Oman.
Muhammad Waseem demonstrated his abilities in One-Day and Twenty20 Internationals. After leading the UAE to a 2-1 victory over Bangladesh in the T20I series in Sharjah, he amassed 169 runs in five One-Day Internationals. He won Player of the Series after hitting game-winning knocks of 54 and 82 in the first two games as captain and opener.
