Sania Mirza Joins Terra-Invest to Lead Health, Sports Investments
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Tuesday, 18 August 2026
Terra-Invest have announced that six-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 tennis player Sania Mirza has joined the investment firm to co-lead its activities across longevity and preventative health, as well as sports and athletic performance.
Sania will work alongside Terra-Invests founding partners on investment origination, due diligence and portfolio value creation. Her experience as a professional athlete, entrepreneur and investor is expected to bring an operator’s perspective to the firm’s growing portfolio across health and sports.
Terra-Invest have been investing in both sectors for several years, with its portfolio including Smashers Sports, Shookra, the 2100 Club and Precision Diagnostics, among others. The firm’s investment strategy is based on the growing convergence between human performance and healthspan, as consumers increasingly focus on longevity, preventive healthcare, fitness and athletic performance.
Sania is a veteran of professional tennis with almost 20 years of experience and one of India's most accomplished players. She has won six Grand Slams and was the first Indian woman to climb into the top-ten in WTA tennis in April 2015 as the world's number one doubles player. During her career she won 43 WTA titles and held the No. 1 ranking for 91 weeks in a row.
Key Highlights:
- Sania joins Terra-Invest to lead investments in health, longevity and sports
- Terra-Invest expands its portfolio across preventive health and athletic performance
- Mirza brings strong expertise as an athlete, entrepreneur and investor
She has also become the first woman to win a WTA singles title in India; and she was also a member of the Indian team who participated in the Olympic Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. She has won eight Asian Games medals, two Commonwealth Games medals and four Afro-Asian Games medals.
Sania has been the recipient of many of India's highest awards in sports such as the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Arjuna Award and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. In 2023, she announced her retirement from professional tennis playing at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
After retiring from professional sports, Sania has continued to pursue a career outside the sport. Having no access to professional coaches, facilities and development pathways in India, she established the Sania Tennis Academy (SMTA) to make it accessible for young tennis players. Since then, the academy has helped nurture hundreds of India's young, who are now recognized by the country as some of the top players and also been instrumental in building the country's sporting infrastructure.
In addition to tennis, Sania has had a vested interest and mentorship in sports, media, health and consumer brands. She has also been a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia and also involved in programs to empower women and create social development.
Commenting on this new role, Sania, said, “I spent twenty years treating my body as an asset. You learn quickly that recovery, diagnostics and prevention are not luxuries; they're the whole game. What drew me to Terra-Invest is that they were building in this space before it became a headline. I'm here to identify opportunities, back them, and help them grow.”
Ankiti Bose, Partner, Terra-Invest said, “Sania has done the hardest thing in sport - sustained excellence over two decades - and then done the harder thing, which is built after it. That combination is rare and it is exactly what this wellness and sport portfolio needs. She sees things in a founder that a spreadsheet doesn't.”
Krishan Rattan, Partner, Terra-Invest said, 'Our thesis has been consistent: health and sport are converging, and the capital in the region is ahead of the infrastructure. Sania gives us reach judgment and access that would take a decade to build otherwise and it is a great pleasure to learn from the sheer discipline and endurance of one of the great athletes of our time.'
Her appointment at Terra-Invest comes as the sports economy and preventive health sectors attract increasing attention from investors. The firm views the overlap between physical performance, wellness and longevity as a significant long-term investment opportunity.
Terra-Invest is a UAE-headquartered private investment firm that partners with founders, operators and institutions across private and public markets. The firm invests from early-stage ventures to established global companies and follows a long-term, partnership-driven approach across sectors and geographies.
With Sania joining its leadership and investment activities, Terra-Invest aims to strengthen its focus on businesses operating at the intersection of health, longevity, sports and human performance.
