The two-time Olympic medal winner PV Sindhu began her World Championship campaign on a positive note by beating Sophia Noble from Ireland to reach the second round in the women's singles event of the BWF World Championships that is being hosted in New Delhi. The Indian number nine seed beat Sophia with a comfortable margin of 21-7, 21-11.

This victory is exactly what Sindhu needs to get her off on the right foot as she chases her dream of earning her sixth World Championship medal, having earned a total of five medals till now. At the moment, this Indian woman athlete is a proud possessor of two bronze medals, two silver medals, and one gold medal that she won in 2019.

Facing Ireland’s player, PV Sindhu made sure that the match never came close to being a contest. She asserted her offensive style from the start and managed the rallies well due to her greater experience and mobility on the court. The ninth seed was able to finish the match in just 29 minutes.

Sindhu turned out to be a dominant female player straightaway, making use of her experience, patience, and court strategy to keep up with the pressure throughout the match. After the break, Sindhu stepped up and came into the game with a whole new aggressiveness, ensuring that there was no way left for Sophia to come back into the game. She set her own pace in terms of hitting drop shots and smashes in such a way that the opponent was constantly struggling with the game.

Sindhu will have another tough battle with Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang, who managed to make it to the next round by defeating Bulgaria’s Stefani Stoeva 21-7, 21-19.
