- This initiative aims at enhancing the livelihood and economic participation of women
- Samsung India entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with regard to the initiative
Samsung has started a program in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur area to help women develop their skills so they can find jobs and be financially secure in one of the biggest manufacturing areas in Tamil Nadu.
The first step in this process has been for Samsung to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bal Raksha Bharat so that they can provide vocational training for 200 women from the villages of Santhavellore and Sirumangadu, which is in the Kanchipuram district.
The program will run for 12 weeks from April to September of 2026 and will provide hands-on vocational training for sewing as well as a government-recognised certification upon completion. Also, the individuals who complete the program will receive a sewing machine so they can continue to earn an income or start their own business.
According to SH Yoon, President of Samsung’s Chennai Plant, the program supports the Government of Tamil Nadu’s efforts to develop its industry by creating skills.
In addition, he stated that the program is intended to help women become self-sufficient, create opportunities for entrepreneurs in the Sriperumbudur area, and foster long-term and sustainable development. The program is part of Samsung’s larger corporate-social-responsibility programs.
