Rapido, a bike ride-sharing platform, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the West Bengal transport department for a Rs 150 crore investment in electric mobility, women's safety, and road safety awareness. The investment will focus on urban electric mobility, introducing a dedicated fleet of pink-colored vehicles for women, and providing financial assistance for women to own and operate their vehicles.
Rapido plans to invest Rs 130 crores in urban electric mobility, deploying electric vehicles, and building infrastructure in the city and its parts promoting a seamless transition to sustainable transportation. The company will introduce a pink-colored fleet of two-wheelers and four-wheelers driven by women. Rapido further pledges to provide financial assistance of Rs 12 crore to women operating vehicles over the next 3 years and offer Rs 5 crore for road safety and awareness campaigns. The campaigns will include quarterly driver training programmes with government-accredited centres, public awareness of traffic regulations, and helmet distribution drives.
During the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025 held in Calcutta, the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has signed an MoU with the Department of Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Resources (NRES) of the Government of West Bengal. The NRES Department and TERI have collaborated on innovative renewable energy applications like floating solar, agriPV, and BIPV, as well as cleantech manufacturing within the state.
