Punjab Istri Sabha Honors Women Leaders

- The Punjab Istri Sabha recalled woman leaders Savitribai Phule, Fatima Sheikh, and Geeta Mukherjee
- They appreciated these leaders for enlightening society and being supportive of women as well as minority groups
During the Punjab Istri Sabha meeting held on Wednesday, it was made clear how women leaders like Savitribai Phule, Fatima Sheikh, and Geeta Mukherjee have influenced society and how they spent their lives educating society and fighting for the rights of women and marginalized sections, said Punjab Istri Sabha State President Rajinder Pal Kaur.
The meeting saw discussions from its guests, including Dr. Virk, Renuka Bal, teacher Rajwant Kaur, Rekha Bhatti, Pawan Bhatti, Samit Singh, and Bhupinder Kaur, on issues pertaining to females, as well as issues such as corruption, change in education, privatization, superstition, unemployment, inequality, communalism, and government policy related to natural resources.
The Sabha recalled Savitribai as the country's first woman teacher who faced a lot of difficulties to ensure education for girls and started a number of schools along with Fatima Sheikh.
They also remembered MP Geeta who actively participated in the independence movement and has been highlighting social issues even after Independence.
She is remembered for turning up a bill in parliament in 1996 seeking 33 percent reservation for women in parliament and assembly.
