  • Lisa Keightley, former batter and World Cup winner with Australia, has close to 20 years of coaching experience
  • Keightley has been hired as the head coach for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the WPL.

The Mumbai Indians have appointed former Australian cricketer and two-time World Cup winner Lisa Keightley as the head coach for their women’s team.

This comes after the departure of Charlotte Edwards, who is going to be the England Women’s team coach.

She is a part of Australia’s World Cup-winning side from 1997 and 2005 and has remained one of the most successful coaches in women’s cricket so far. She has vast coaching experience with Australia, England, and major T20 competitions around the globe.

The Mumbai Indians Women have been one of the most successful sides in the WPL so far and have triumphed in two championships in three editions – 2023 and 2025.

Nita M. Ambani, owner of Mumbai Indians, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lisa Keightley to the Mumbai Indians family. Lisa has achieved so much for women’s cricket and has brought so much to the table. This is a very exciting chapter for us as we look to continue and build on our legacy.”

Lisa remarked, “I am very honoured to join the Mumbai Indians franchise, which has a good record in the WPL. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to work with players to help them reach even greater heights and contribute to the team’s performance not just on the field but even off it.”

She has also coached both Australia and the England women’s national team and is the first female coach to coach England on a full-time basis.

She also has significant franchise experience coaching in the WBBL, The Hundred, and WPL and most recently led Northern Superchargers to win the women’s competition in The Hundred.

As a player, Lisa was a stylish opening batswoman for Australia, playing 9 Tests, 82 ODIs, and 1 T20 International.
