  • PrimeInvestor raised ₹19.5 crore from Rainmatter while remaining fully independent
  • Launched a PMS offering to bridge the gap between giving investment advice and implementation
  • Manages ₹62 crore across 100 clients and is looking at growing PMS and other new product offerings

PrimeInvestor, a wealth-tech platform, has secured Rs 19.5 crore (approximately $2 million) as its first external funding round led by Rainmatter. This investment is primarily to help the company scale up its newly launched portfolio management services.

According to PrimeInvestor co-founder Srikanth Meenakshi, the investment by Rainmatter is strictly financial with no strategic involvement. It is important to note that the company remains completely independent as a result of this transaction. "They have been very clear that this is a financial investment and we continue to operate independently, " he said.

PrimeInvestor, formed in 2020 by the FundsIndia founders, primarily focused on providing research-oriented services such as delivering curated financial insights and portfolio strategies through its website. Nevertheless, the company after that levelled a gap in transition of advice to actual buying of shares.

“We realised advice alone isn’t enough, as investors lack time to manage portfolios,” said Meenakshi reasoned while quoting the findings from the analysis of 12, 000 portfolios worth more than Rs 25, 000 crore, which revealed that even the high-net-worth investors possessed sub-optimal allocation of their portfolios.

Taking this forward, PrimeInvestor has decided to launch a discretionary PMS (Portfolio Management Service) exclusive for investors having a minimum amount of Rs. 50 lakhs so as to create a balance between advice and execution through portfolio management.

"We are positioning PMS as a wealth solutions platform, combining mutual funds and equities with a focus on asset allocation and risk management,” said Vidya Bala, the co-founder of PrimeInvestor.
