Bengaluru-based quantum security venture, has raised an undisclosed pre-seed funding round led by Seafund Ventures. The round was attended by Rebalance, Magnivia Ventures in collaboration with Peaceful Progress Fund and other notable angel investors like Awais Ahmed, Founder of Pixxel Space. Early investors include Techstars, Roh Ventures Founder Neel Mehta, Almagest Space Co-Founder Raghunath Das, and KRISS Portfolio Director Bhavya Doshi along with other angel investors.
Pramatra Space, established by Richa Hukumchand and Vinay Hukumchand, aims to equip enterprises with quantum-resilience before the big “Q” day in Bengaluru. Pramatra Space is developing hybrid satellite & terrestrial solutions for quantum secure global communications. Its technologies are based on Quantum Key Distribution for the secure distribution and generation of encryption keys in data centres and space infrastructure, providing an extra layer of security for the enterprises to face future cyber threats.
The team has validated and tested its proprietary photonics integrated circuit (PIC) chip for quantum entanglement-based QKD at IIT Madras which is a crucial technical step. The company has signed an in-orbit demonstration for its payload with a satellite bus manufacturer for 2027. The money raised will be spent to further develop the PIC chip for flight qualification and product development.
Key Highlights:
- Pramatra Space raised pre-seed funding led by Seafund Ventures
- The startup is building quantum-secure satellite communication technology
- Its proprietary QKD chip was successfully validated at Indian Institute of Technology Madras
“The clock is ticking, and the nation must prepare for the quantum era,” said Richa Hukumchand, Founder & CEO of Pramatra Space. India has always punched above its weight in space technology. What excites us most is that the talent, the institutions, and the policy ambition are all converging at exactly the right moment for quantum tech now. Pramatra is our contribution to ensuring India doesn’t just participate in the quantum era – it helps define it. We are proud to be building this technology in India, for the world.”
Founder and CEO Richa is a scientist turned entrepreneur who has worked in the field of building air defense systems at DRDO, earth observation at Pixxel Space and now quantum communications at Pramatra. Richa was recently recognized as “Emerging Woman Founder 2025” by the HDFC Bank Group at their Tech Innovators 2025 event. Co-Founder and COO, Vinay brings extensive commercial and thought leadership experience and a track record of taking R&D-led products to market across emerging technology categories at companies such as Deloitte, AstraZeneca, and Davita.
“At Seafund, we back frontier deep-tech founders who are building sovereign technology for the next decade of space and cybersecurity,” said Narendra Bhandari, General Partner at Seafund. “Pramatra Space sits perfectly at this intersection, utilizing advanced photonics and satellite infrastructure. Their successful chip validation at IIT Madras demonstrates exceptional technical capability, and we are excited to lead this round and support their journey toward orbit.”
Aishwarya Malhi and Vikas Kumar, Co-founders at Rebalance, noted that what caught their eye was not only the technical skills and vision, but the collective determination to create sovereign, world-class deep-tech from India, especially in the realms of quantum computing, cybersecurity, and space infrastructure, which will shape the next decade.
The world's digital infrastructure—including internet banking, defense networks, satellites and data centers—assumes its data and applications are secure today thanks to the existing security system, but SOON this WILL NOT be the case. Quantum Computers are coming and the best encryption system and architecture we have right now will become ineffective.
This investment is very much in line with Sea fund’s thesis of investing in deep-tech founders building at the bleeding edge of hardware, space and new technologies. Sea fund is making this pre-seed investment to help Pramatra reach its goal of flight qualification and commercial scaling.
