Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to empower Indian women economically by creating three crore "lakhpati didis" across India. The foundation of this effort is the women, who work in self-help groups.
PM Modi praised the recipients of the key programs run by the Center in Jammu and Kashmir for serving as role models for the rest of the nation. He urged Kirti Sharma, the leader of a self-help group (SHG) in the Kathua district's Basohli area, to take the opportunity of the Grameen Aajeevika scheme's loan plan during a public rally. With a loan of Rs. 1 lakh, Kirti's SHG bought three cows and paid back the loan. She now has a thriving cowshed because of the combined efforts of multiple women.
PM Modi expressed his ambitious goal of creating three crore women lakhpati didis, asking Kirti directly for her assistance in achieving this goal. As a representative of the 5,871 women in her district's groups, Kirti committed to fully supporting PM Modi's goal of empowering women financially.
Kirti's journey from unemployment to being the leader of a SHG serves as an example of how self-help groups can have a transforming effect. She became financially independent and gave other women more confidence by joining the organization. Her success story speaks to the greater objective of empowering women in the country.
The Prime Minister further praised Shaheen Begum, a post-graduate entrepreneur from Bandipora, who has transformed rural women's lives through the Deendayal Antyodaya scheme by setting up SHGs and poultry farms.
In addition to this, PM Modi spoke to five other beneficiaries, including farmers and SHG members, to understand the impact of various schemes like PMAY-G, PM Kisan, Jal Jeevan Mission, National Rural Livelihood Mission, PMJAY, Ayushman Bharat, PM Ujjwala, PM-KUSUM into their livelihoods.
