One Year Maternity & One Month Paternity Leave for Government Employees Announced by Sikkim CM

Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, declared a leave policy for government employees. The workers would be granted One-year of Maternity and One-month Paternity leaves. He made this statement while addressing the Sikkim State Civil Service Officer's Association (SSCSOA) annual general meeting.
In order to provide this benefit, CM Prem stated that the service rules would change. The complete information about the policy will be soon communicated which would enable government workers to take good care of their families and children.
According to the Maternity Benefit Act of 1961, working women can take six months of paid maternity leave.
The employees are the heart and soul of the state government which makes a significant contribution to the expansion and advancement of Sikkim and its citizens, as per the CM. There has been a strong emphasis on streamlining the promotion process of civil service officers which has resulted in a surge of promotions.
The government of Sikkim has earlier decided to give advance and additional increments to its employees with two or three children in order to increase the population of indigenous communities of Sikkim.
The Department of Personnel Secretary Rinzing Chewang Bhutia stated in a notification that the state government employees who hold a Sikkim Subject Certificate/ Certificate of Identification will receive one advanced increment for having two surviving children. This policy will be only applicable whose second or third children are born after January 1, 2023.
