NTPC Bongaigaon Organises a Medical and Identification Camp for the Girl Empowerment Mission

NTPC has launched the 'Girl Empowerment Mission' – GEM as part of its CSR project with the goal of creating an environment of equal opportunity and all-around upliftment for underprivileged girl students in the surrounding area.
On April 27, 2012, NTPC Bongaigaon held a day-long medical examination camp on its premises to test the students' fitness.
NTPC Bongaigaon plans to run a four-week residential programme for female students during the summer break in the month of July 2022.
The camp drew more than 50 youngsters (10-12 years old) from nine schools in the surrounding villages. NTPC personnel also conducted child identification, obtained consent forms from parents and guardians, and began the measurement of the school uniform/dress to be delivered to the students.
For the first time at the power station, NTPC's flagship project for girl child empowerment would be implemented. The goal of NTPC is to make every girl aware of the importance of education, health, and self-defense programmes.
Girls will receive tailored programmes addressing basic communication skills in Hindi and English, as well as elementary education in math, cleanliness and nutrition, yoga, and sports, among other things.
Talks on gender diversity issues, group activities, movie screenings on social issues, online safety, music, dancing, theatre, and other activities will be organised to help them enhance their social skills.
Earlier this month, the station performed a baseline poll of the students to determine their knowledge levels.
NTPC hopes to eliminate myths about female foeticide in rural India with this initiative, as well as provide a platform for youngsters to demonstrate their talents and abilities.
As part of its social responsibility, NTPC has already been conducting and sponsoring a number of programmes aimed at improving the well-being of society, including the empowerment of women of various ages who live in the vicinity of its plants.
In the second year of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) programme, India's largest power generating company, NTPC, has already benefited over 2000 pupils as part of its CSR initiatives to enhance the lives of women and girls in the country.
