National Capital to get Pink Parks Exclusively for Women

By: WE Staff | Monday, 15 May 2023

250 "Pink Parks" to be situated exclusively for women in India's Capital where no men will be allowed to enter. Aaley Mohammad Iqbal, the deputy Mayor of Delhi mentioned that they have started the process of locating potential sites for women-only "Pink Parks" in each MCD ward.

In addition to this, ensure that the women get numerous services, the goal is to make the city a "more comfortable space" for women. He has even spoken to the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal to establish similar parks in all wards.

In a meeting with the civic body's horticulture department, he suggested adding one such park in each ward.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has over 250 wards under its jurisdiction. "Pink Park" which is established on Mata Sundari Road was a pilot project, according to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Iqbal. These parks will allow the ladies to take kids up to the age of 10, he stated.

The same methodology will apply to the rest of the wards as well. To provide a better environment for the women in society, the "Pink Parks" in the capital will have CCTV cameras located, restrooms, gym facilities, and walls decorated with graffiti. Each councilor in that ward needs to select one park to be transformed into a "Pink Park".

Several councilors have been instructed to look out for their spots to establish the "Pink Parks". This project aims to provide a better and safe place for women rather than public parks.

Although the proposal is unique but important measures have to be taken before making any action. If there's a demand from the local people and the councilors, the initiative will be taken forward.
