NABARD & NSDC Launch Gramodyam to Build 4,000 Rural Enterprises
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Monday, 13 July 2026
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has launched Gramodyam, a digital-first Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) aimed at strengthening India's rural enterprise ecosystem. Announced on NABARD's 45th Foundation Day by Chairman Dr Shaji K. V., the initiative seeks to establish approximately 4,000 rural enterprises over the next three years. Implemented by the Institute for Industrial Development (IID), the programme is designed to promote entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and sustainable rural economic growth by supporting aspiring entrepreneurs through every stage of business development.
Key Highlights
- NABARD and NSDC launch Gramodyam to create 4,000 rural enterprises in three years
- Programme offers training, mentoring, credit facilitation, and market access
- Digital-first model supports rural entrepreneurship across India
Gramodyam has been developed jointly by NABARD and NSDC under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to identify, train, and nurture aspiring entrepreneurs from rural India. The programme aims to transform innovative business ideas into sustainable enterprises that generate self-employment opportunities, create local jobs, and contribute to stronger rural economies.
The initiative follows a digital-first hybrid delivery model to ensure nationwide outreach across all States and Union Territories. Beneficiaries will be mobilised through digital platforms, social media campaigns, community outreach, and on-ground engagement, making the programme accessible to entrepreneurs from diverse regions.
Participants will undergo a structured entrepreneurial journey that includes psychometric assessments, career counselling, Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training, industry-specific skill development, business mentoring, and enterprise establishment support. This comprehensive approach extends beyond conventional skill development by providing continuous assistance from business ideation to enterprise creation.
Gramodyam also offers an integrated enterprise support framework covering business opportunity identification, business planning, enterprise management training, credit facilitation, market linkages, mentorship, and post-establishment handholding. The programme aims to improve the long-term sustainability of rural businesses while addressing the common challenges faced by first-generation entrepreneurs.
As part of its pilot phase, Gramodyam aims to facilitate the creation of around 4,000 rural enterprises over three years through a scalable implementation model. To ensure transparency, all beneficiaries will undergo e-KYC verification through NSDC before joining the programme.
The initiative places significant emphasis on improving access to finance through a dedicated credit facilitation framework. Participants will receive support in preparing bankable Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), accessing loans from NABARD-supported Regional Rural Banks and other financial institutions, submitting digital loan applications, and understanding relevant government schemes and incentives.
Gramodyam will also be integrated with NSDC's digital platform for real-time monitoring and impact assessment. The system will track candidate mobilisation, gender inclusion, training completion, certification, GST registration, UDYAM registration, enterprise operationalisation, and business sales performance, enabling continuous evaluation of programme outcomes.
By combining entrepreneurship development, digital innovation, financial support, and market connectivity, Gramodyam aligns with the Government's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047. The initiative aims to build a new generation of rural entrepreneurs, strengthen local economies, and promote inclusive, sustainable development across rural India.
