Mukesh Ambani Calls for Stronger Support for Working Women

Reliance Industries Limited Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani have emphasized the need for stronger support systems to help working women and mothers succeed in corporate India.
Speaking at the launch of the Hindi edition of Arundhati Bhattacharya’s memoir Indomitable: A Working Woman’s Notes on Work, Life, and Leadership, Mukesh said the Hindi version would make Arundhati’s journey accessible to young women and men across Bharat, including those in cities, towns, districts and villages.
“The English title describes her perfectly. Indomitable, a person whom no hurdles can halt, no adversity can defeat,” Mukesh said, adding that the occasion had been five years in the making.
Arundhati is a board member of Reliance since 2018. She had brought her experience and independence of mind to the board, and had brought a sense of optimism to the discussions because of her ability to navigate through the complexities and find solutions as a leader, Mukesh said.
Key Highlights:
- Mukesh calls for stronger support systems for working women and mothers in corporate India
- Mukesh highlights women’s emotional intelligence and urges greater representation of women in leadership positions
- He proposes a collective initiative to empower more women leaders and strengthen the ecosystem for working women
Arundhati has always been a strong advocate of diversity as a basis for robust leadership and decision making since taking his seat on the board in 2018, he added.
“Today at Reliance, we are very proud to have many more women leaders at senior levels across Reliance,” Mukesh said.
He added that women bring a “rare kind of EQ, empathy quotient” to negotiations and real-life situations.
“It is now my firm conviction that our world needs more emotional quotient than intellectual quotient, which is to say, more women in leadership positions,” Mukesh said.
Calling indomitable “not an ordinary autobiography” but “a call to action”, Mukesh said Arundhati’s achievements against all odds were a source of inspiration for working mothers around the world.
He also said the book highlighted the need for corporate India to do more to ensure women get what they deserve.
“I wish to appeal to all my fellow business leaders today. Let us collectively launch an effective initiative to strengthen the ecosystem that supports working women and working mothers in corporate India,” Mukesh said.
He requested Arundhati and other accomplished women to guide the initiative.
“Let us help and empower thousands of indomitable women leaders to build and run the new temples of Viksit Bharat,” Mukesh said.
