Mrs. India Earth 2021 winner Dr. Monika Chawla says she wants to focus her efforts on women's empowerment and education in India.
Mrs. India Earth, the annual pageant held in New Delhi on December 18 to honour married Indian women who symbolise beauty, talent, intelligence, and compassion, has chosen Dr. Chawla as the winner.
She is a reproductive endocrinologist and fertility doctor based in the United Arab Emirates who has been helping women realise their dreams of becoming mothers for over 16 years.
Chawla, who was born and reared in New Delhi, studied in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany before settling in Abu Dhabi.
She is the author of multiple international publications, including a reproductive medicine textbook published in 2017.
She was named the 'Best physician in the UAE' by the Dubai Health Authority in 2018.
Chawla identifies herself as a workaholic who credits her motivation to "warm words of thanks and blessings from my patients.”
Women's education, on the other hand, is a subject close to her heart.
Dr. Chawla highlighted the importance of girls' education in strengthening economies and creating jobs, “if you educate a woman, you educate a nation. Gaps exist in our society that needs to be filled to reduce the death rate and provide equitable access to quality health care among women and children”.
She believes that healthy women and children are the cornerstones of strong communities.
She insisted, “investing in the health of pregnant women and girls is indispensable for achieving our future goals. The other issue I feel strongly about is girl education.”
Chawla has ties to Indian organisations that promote girl education and women's health, both of which are in urgent need of reform. After receiving the title of Mrs. India Earth 2021, she hopes to utilise her voice to further these social causes.
