Madhya Pradesh Assembly clears 33% reservation for women after delimitation amid Congress walkout on Monday. The House approved a resolution focused on women’s advancements, backing a 33% quota in Parliament and State legislatures by voice vote.

Responding to the assembly debate, CM Mohan Yadav criticised Congress of a systemic negative e approach to women’s empowerment, claiming its leadership undermined women’s rights and aspirations.  He also noted that ever since BJP has come into power, it has bolstered and advocated for women’s rights and increased their participation in positions of authority.

CM Mohan asserted that BJP drove women’s rights through the Nari Shakti Vandan Act amendment, claiming that the opposition parties have diluted these rights. Challenging Congress’s push for immediate rollout, he said that the Act requires delimitation amendments; the special session followed the Bill’s defeat in the Lok Sabha. He suggested that Congress should wake up from slumber and stop participating in the injustice against women.

Congress called for deliberation on a private bill for immediate 33% quota, but Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar turned it down, promoting a walkout; as the CM introduced the resolution, LoP Umang Singhar raised a procedural point. LoP Umang said that the Congress wanted the immediate discussion and implementation of the Women's Reservation Act passed by Parliament in 2023.

He also added that the government’s words do not match their actions. He also questioned the government for a clear answer on women’s reservation and why 50% is not being considered when women make up nearly half the population. There was a heated exchange of words between the ruling party and the opposition members.
