Former India skipper Mithali Raj will come out of retirement for the Women’s IPL which is expected to be played from first week of March. There have been a lot of activities ahead of the first Women’s IPL. The names of the five participating teams are expected to be released in the last week of January.
Mithali’s participation will provide the tournament a spurt of energy since she is one of the most loved female Indian cricketer across the country. Mithali is the face of women’s cricket in India. She has retired from international cricket in June 2022 but had mentioned that she might be back for the Women’s IPL.
Mithali had dropped the first hint of coming out of retirement for the WIPL in a conversation with former England player IshaGuha and ex-New Zealand off spinner Frankie Mackay July 2022 about ICC’s 100% Cricket podcast.
“I’m keeping that option open. I’ve not yet decided. There are a few more months to go before the women’s IPL happens. It would be lovely to be part of the first edition of the women’s IPL,” Mithali had said.
