  • Mission ShakthiSAT expanded to Sri Lanka to promote STEM education for girls
  • The lunar satellite mission will engage 12,000 girls from 108 countries in space technology training
  • Selected students will attend a satellite training programme in India in 2026

Mission ShakthiSAT, an initiative led by Space Kidz India, has expanded its presence to Sri Lanka through collaboration with Women in Management Global as part of the all-girls lunar satellite mission.

The project was formally launched at the meeting between Srimathy Kesan and Eranga Weeraratne. The thematic discussions were dedicated to the issues of international cooperation in space science, STEM education, innovation and technological empowerment of young girls.

Mission ShakthiSAT is an international mission to the Moon involving 12000 girls from 108 countries who are involved in designing, developing and launching a satellite to the Moon. The mission aims to promote exposure to satellite technology, PCB design, coding, systems engineering, and the teaching of STEM, as well as unity, leadership, and cross-cultural collaboration around the world.

Now Sri Lanka is coming together to join this historic global movement with Women in Management Global led by Sulochana Segera.

Srimathy Kesan said in a statement, “Mission ShakthiSAT is about creating opportunities for girls to become future scientists, engineers, innovators, and leaders. Through this initiative, we are building a global ecosystem where young minds learn, create, and collaborate beyond borders for a shared vision of progress and peace.”

To support this programme, a number of students from the participating countries will be invited to India to attend a Satellite Training Programme from 23rd – 1st August 2026. The training and collaboration programme will involve the participants in satellite design, fabrication, testing, coding and integration activities.

The two-stage educational program is created for pupils aged 14-18, regardless of their financial and social status.

Phase One will involve students in 21 structured modules of STEM learning, covering the fundamentals of physics, mathematics, electronics, coding, systems engineering and space technology. Phase Two will take place at satellite integration and mission preparation for the Moon mission.

Mission ShakthiSAT has reached over 7,800 students from all over the world and is still reaching out to more students through partnerships with governments, institutions, educators and industry leaders.

Space Kidz India is an aerospace group focused on bringing space education and satellite missions to the benefit of the students. In the last ten years, the organisation has flown more than 27 space missions with students.
