Meera Mohanty Appointed MIDHANI Government Nominee Director

IAS officer Meera Mohanty has been appointed as Government Nominee Director on the Board of Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), effective September 17, 2026. The appointment was made by the Ministry of Defence and disclosed by the defence public sector undertaking under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Meera, a 2005-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, currently serves as Joint Secretary (Personnel & Coordination) in the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence. She replaces Prakash Rajpurohit, whose tenure as Government Nominee Director on the MIDHANI Board ceased with effect from the same date.

Before taking up her current assignment in the Department of Defence Production, Meera served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Her career has included senior administrative responsibilities in the Central Government.
The latest appointment adds to Meera’s existing responsibilities across India’s defence public sector enterprises. She is also a Government Nominee Director on the Board of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). She was appointed Government Director on the Board of BEML Limited with effect from July 14, 2025, and also holds a Part-Time Official Director position at Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
With the MIDHANI appointment, Meera is associated with the boards of multiple defence-sector PSUs operating under the broader Department of Defence Production portfolio. Such government nominee positions provide administrative ministry representation at the board level and support coordination between government policy and the functioning of public sector companies.
Hyderabad-headquartered MIDHANI specialises in the manufacture of special metals and alloys for strategic applications. Its products are used across defence, aerospace, space and other critical sectors, making the company an important part of India’s strategic manufacturing ecosystem.
Meera’s appointment comes as defence PSUs continue to play a role in the government’s focus on indigenous defence production and self-reliance. Her current position within the Department of Defence Production provides direct administrative experience relevant to the ministry overseeing MIDHANI.
According to the company’s disclosure, Meera is not disqualified from holding a directorship under the applicable provisions of the Companies Act and is not debarred from holding office as a director by SEBI or any other regulatory authority.The appointment represents a change in government-nominated representation on the MIDHANI Board, with Meera taking over from Prakash with effect from September 17, 2026.
