Rupali Chakankar, the chairperson of the Maharashtra State Women Commission, wrote to the state home department on Thursday, requesting that BJP social media cell coordinator Jiten Gajaria be prosecuted for tweeting offensive tweets regarding Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's daughter Rashmi Thackeray.
The subject was taken up by the commission on its own initiative. According to Chakankar, “I have written to the home department. We have demanded strict action against Jiten Gajaria.”
She further said, “the commission will not tolerate any objectionable posts against any woman. We will pursue the matter till those indulging in such acts are punished.”
Chandra-kant Patil, the state BJP chief, remarked, “the party has urged all its workers to be careful not to hurt anybody with their comments.”
He said, “Gajaria has been called to the police station for recording his statement.”
Gajaria's statement has been recorded by police in connection with his allegedly offensive tweets. According to an official, he was permitted to leave the BKC cyber police station after nearly eight hours.
According to the official, Gajaria admitted in writing that his tweets were inappropriate and promised to remove them. Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister, was apparently mentioned in one of his tweets.
