Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Tuesday that the state will establish a dedicated women's entrepreneurship hub to support women-led businesses and start-ups across Maharashtra.
As part of the initiative, the Maharashtra State Innovation Society (MSINS), operating under the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Udyati Foundation, according to an official release.
The partnership aims to strengthen the state's entrepreneurial ecosystem for women by improving their access to funding, markets and business support services.
Under the agreement, MSINS and the Udyati Foundation will act as technical and knowledge partners to support the establishment of the women's start-up hub, the release stated.
Key Highlights:
- Maharashtra signs an MoU with the Udyati Foundation to establish a start-up hub supporting women entrepreneurs
- The hub will provide mentorship, access to finance, market connections and government scheme support
- The partnership will develop a women's start-up index to track entrepreneurial progress across departments and districts
The initiative will help to enhance the economic empowerment of the women in Maharashtra, said Fadnavis.
The MoU was signed by Dr Shrikanth Patil, the Chief Executive Officer of MSINS, and Pooja Sharma Goyal, Founder and CEO of Udyati Foundation in the presence of Minister of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Mangal Prabhat Lodha.
The hub will serve as a coordinating platform, connecting government departments, ecosystem partners and support organizations to further the opportunities for women entrepreneurs.
A model will be created and implemented on women entrepreneurship for the state of Maharashtra. The Udyati Foundation will provide technical support to the MSINS through the accelerator in various aspects related to mentorship, industry needs, access to finance, linkage with various schemes of the states and Central government etc.
The partnership will also strive to create and mainstream a women's start-up index that will measure the progress of women entrepreneurs in the departments and districts based on gender disaggregated data.
The partnership will also help facilitate the interdepartmental steering committee to lead the implementation of the women's start-up index.
The Udyati Foundation aims at boosting the economic and entrepreneurial involvement of women in India. The foundation will work with state governments and business to place 156 million women, who are currently out of the workforce, into jobs, the release said.
