Maharashtra has launched the Adishakti Abhiyan, a women-centric campaign aimed at addressing critical social issues like malnutrition, maternal and infant mortality, child marriage, and gender-based violence on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar.
The initiative aims to improve government schemes for women and children, with a budget of Rs 10.50 crore, and enhance women's involvement in local governance. It involves a committee formation at various levels, including villages, talukas, districts, divisional, and state levels, Panchayat Samitis participation, and the introduction of Adishakti Awards.
The flagship campaign aims to empower women through government welfare schemes, addressing malnutrition, infant and maternal mortality, domestic violence, sexual harassment, child marriage, female participation in Panchayati Raj Institutions, establishing village-level committees, and launching awards to recognize gram panchayats efforts.
The campaign, named after Maharashtra's Ahilyabai Holkar, aims to promote gender equality, safe childhood, and community-led governance. It involves committees at various levels, mandatory Panchayat Samitis involvement, and collaboration with Anganwadi workers and Taluka Protection Officers.
