Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy claimed the FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2024-25 (Pune leg) title from China's Zhu Jiner based on superior tie-breaks. Both had finished the tournament on seven points each, Humpy after registering a crucial last-round win over Bulgaria's Nurgyul Salimova. Zhu too ended on a high note with a win over Russia's Polina Shuvalova to match Humpy's score but was edged out to stand second on tie-break criteria.

In the penultimate round, Koneru was paired against Alina Kashlinskaya in a closely contested game, while Zhu beat India's Divya Deshmukh in a tough tactical battle—to take both into six points each on the final day. The last rounds saw the tournament conclude in some big scores: India's R Vaishali drew with Georgia's Salome Melia, Divya Deshmukh drew with Poland's Alina Kashlinskaya and Dronavalli Harika drew with Mongolia's Munguntuul Batkhuyag.

FIDE announced the outcome on social media, posting: "Humpy Koneru and Zhu Jiner both won their final round games and tied for first in the FIDE Women's Grand Prix, but it's Humpy who leads the table thanks to superior tiebreaks!"
