Kolkata has introduced fresh support for six first-generation women entrepreneurs combining business funding with training and market access to rebuild and consolidate their ventures. Under the Krittika Samriddhi scheme of the Kutchina Foundation, each entrepreneur is being provided with financial assistance of ₹2 lakh within one year.

The Krittika Samriddhi program follows a more comprehensive format of an entrepreneurship assistance program instead of being limited to an aid program alone. Alongside funding, the beneficiaries will be provided with training and marketing links, which will help them, build up their entrepreneurial skills and gain access to markets.

Key Highlights:

  • Six women entrepreneurs receive ₹2 lakh each under Krittika Samriddhi
  • Grants combine financial aid with training and market access
  • Trans woman entrepreneur Debangshi gets support to restart her venture

One of the beneficiaries, Debangshi Biswas Chowdhury, a transgender entrepreneur, began an online business in 2024 and witnessed promising beginnings but soon enough due to lack of funds she had to close it down. Debangshi can have the chance of beginning afresh with more money and an increased awareness that will be encountered in operating an independent business.

Capital, capability building, and access to markets will help Krittika Samriddhi achieve its objectives of improving the resilience of first generation entrepreneurs and women-owned enterprises overcome their financial constraints.

For Debangshi, it is not just about reviving her business through the grant, but rather holds deeper meaning for transgender women like her aiming to achieve more economic freedom and take part in the business environment. Her presence among the recipients adds weight to the importance of entrepreneurship programs to provide opportunities for women from different groups.

Financing, networking, and capability development are some of the ways in which an entrepreneur can achieve economic independence and recognition in the business world.

Other recipients of funding were a woman in Khardah setting up a nail art studio and an entrepreneur running a confectionery business. This diversity shows how varied small owner-operated companies are especially those in service sectors and dealing with consumers. These types of businesses usually rely largely on savings by the entrepreneur and revenues in order to sustain operations.

Limited access to funding could hinder the business in terms of acquiring equipment, inventory as well as expanding clientele, etc. Business funding at an early stage would help the entrepreneurs to stabilize operations and generate revenue.

The project is created to go beyond the scope of the granting funds. The project will link the chosen entrepreneurs with marketing and skills-training opportunities which will allow them not only to build their skills but also get access to more customers. The foundation stated that knowledge, network, and market access are essential aspects of building a venture. This initiative highlights the significance of timely intervention to whether or not a small business survives an initial monetary hurdle.

Namit Bajoria, managing director, Kutchina Home Makers Private Limited & chairperson Kutchina Foundation said, “When you are building something for the first time, while the willingness to work is important, the right support at the right time can make a tremendous difference. Building a business takes more than an idea — it takes access to knowledge, people, markets and the confidence to keep moving forward.”
