Maiden Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Kerala, Vadassery Damodara Menon Satheesan started with the government declaring free travel for women on Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) from June 15. This immediately fuels the key guarantees promised during the election campaign.

The landmark announcement approves a series of major welfare initiatives. This measure underscores a commitment to equitable transport access and reinforces the administration’s emphasis on citizen-centric welfare reforms.

His decision reflects a structured, outcome-driven approach, setting the tone for a citizen-first administration under the new Congress-led UDF government. It enhances the mobility of women.

In an endeavour to expand its welfare-driven agenda, the government announced a specialized department dedicated to the needs of senior citizens. The initiative is expected to streamline elderly care policies and improve service delivery.

It is interesting to note that the Indian state is citing Japan’s advanced elderly care ecosystem as a benchmark. The administration will be conducting a comprehensive review of the model to identify scalable best practices for implementation in Kerala.
