Karnataka Launches Subsidy Scheme for Christian Women SHGs
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Wednesday, 24 June 2026
The Karnataka Christian Community Development Corporation Limited (KCCDCL) has announced a new subsidy scheme for Christian Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), marking a significant step in encouraging women entrepreneurship and financial inclusion. The idea is to help women from the Christian community to start sustainable self-employment projects and self-reliant, self-supporting businesses by organizing them in groups.
The scheme has been launched under the guidance of Prof. S. Japhet, Chairman, KCCDCL and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. It aims at building the capacities of women-led SHGs with financial support for income generation activities and encourages entrepreneurship through SHGs in the state.
As per the scheme, a subsidy of up to 50% of the total project cost, up to a maximum of ₹2 lakh will be provided for Women Self-Help Groups eligible for the scheme. The support will come in the name of a back-end subsidy and shall be adjusted with the loan that SHGs avail from the recognized financial institutions like nationalized banks, scheduled banks or financial institutions recognized by Reserve bank of India.
The Corporation has designed the initiative to make the business accessible to women entrepreneurs without incarcerating them with financial constraints while helping them start and grow their business, which can create sustainable livelihood opportunities. The government is confident that the program will not only boost incomes of households but also enhance the economic development of communities.
Key Highlights:
- Karnataka launches ₹2 lakh subsidy scheme for Christian Women SHGs
- Eligible NRLM/NULM SHGs to receive 50% project cost as back-end subsidy
- The scheme promotes women entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods
The scheme is only for the Christian Women Self-Help Groups registered under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) or the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM). The financial assistance is available for people who are eligible to use for projects that will provide income and economic stability and have been approved for a self-employment project.
The program focuses mainly on transparency and accountability in the SHGs apart from financial help. To ensure efficient financial management and to run the scheme smoothly, participating groups will need to keep key records, such as meeting minutes, member savings passbooks, loan registers, and SHGs' bank passbooks.
Applicants will also have to submit various documents in the process of the application, which include an online application form, photographs of all members (passport size), Aadhaar cards, income and caste certificates, detailed project report, bank passbook of the SHG account, group photographs, meeting details for at least six months, and a self-declaration affidavit from every member.
According to the Corporation, the initiative is a part of the government's efforts to support women entrepreneurs and encourage women to take part in collective entrepreneurship through SHG. The scheme will help women put their skills and ideas into action which will help to improve their financial independence and build up local economies.
Empowering women through entrepreneurship would generate tremendous social and economic impacts as financially empowered women are significant contributors to family welfare and the development of the community, officials said.
If a women self-help group is interested in availing the subsidy, they can approach the Karnataka Christian Community Development Corporation Limited. The Corporation has also put in place a helpline and online support system to help applicants along the process.
This project aims to build sustainable livelihoods by collectively mobilizing and empowering Christian women in Karnataka by promoting inclusive growth, creating stronger women led enterprises and increasing their opportunities for sustainable livelihoods through collective action and entrepreneurship.
