The Indian women's cricket team has defeated Ireland by 116 runs in the second ODI being played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. This win led India to close the series with a 2-0 win against Ireland with a match to spare.
India’s win on Sunday was courtesy a massive innings played by Jemimah Rodrigues where she scored a century (102).
India batted first and built a formidable total of 370/5. This was the highest score ever made by Indian women in an international ODI. The Irish side scored 254/7 in their 50 overs.
India went on to have a strong start with skipper Smriti Mandhana (73) and Pratika Rawal (67) playing a 156-run partnership. Smriti hit 10 fours and two sixes.
After Smriti’s wicket fell, Jemimah Rodrigues took the crease and played a stupendous innings. Bringing a strong foundation to the middle order she went on to score 102 runs off 91 balls.
Harleen Deol also shone with her bat and scored 89 runs. At the end Richa Ghosh scored a quick 10 runs.
Faced with a tough challenge to score 371 runs, the Irish team faltered to maintain the needed run rate. Christina Coulter Reilly was the top-scored from the Irish side. She scored 80 runs from 113 balls. Laura Delany scored 37 runs. However, the Indian side displayed magic with the ball and held Ireland back from winning the match.
Deepti Sharma picked up three wickets for 37 runs in her 10 overs. Priya Mishra also snagged two wickets. One wicket each was picked up by Titas Sadhu and Sayali Satghare. India’s bowling restricted Ireland to 254/7 in their 50 overs.
India is set to play the third ODI against Ireland on Jan 15, although India has already won the series 2-0.
