Indian Women Badminton Team Defeats Canada in Uber Cup Debut

The Indian women's team kicked up their Uber Cup campaign in Bangkok, Thailand, with a 4-1 win over Canada in Group D.
The men's squad had opened their Thomas Cup campaign earlier in the day with a 5-0 win over Germany in their first encounter in Group C.
Sindhu defeated Michelle Li of Canada 21-17, 21-10 in 33 minutes in the first singles round.
Shruti Mishra and Simran Singhi, on the other hand, lost the first doubles match to Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai 19-21, 12-21 in 36 minutes.
In the second singles, Aakarshi Kashyap beat Wen Yu Zhang 17-21, 21-18, 21-17 in 50 minutes to regain India's advantage.
Tanisha Crasto and Treeesa Jolly won the match in 25 minutes, defeating Catherine Choi and Josephine Wu 21-9, 21-15.
Ashmita Chaliha defeated Rachel Chan 12-21, 21-11, 22-20 in the final singles tie.
