Indian Weightlifter Purnima Pandey Sets 8 National Records; Wins Gold at Commonwealth Championships

Purnima Pandey, an Indian weightlifter, set eight national records en route to winning gold in the women's +87kg category at the Commonwealth Championships on Thursday.
Purnima won the competition by lifting 229kg (102kg+127kg) and qualifying for the Commonwealth Games next year.
Purnima set eight national records, including two in snatch and three each in clean and jerk and total.
Lovepreet Singh won silver in the men's 109kg event with a lift of 348kg (161kg+187kg).
The bronze medalist at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships set three national records in the snatch section, as well as one apiece in the clean and jerk and total.
Anuradha Pavunraj won bronze in the women's 87kg event with a total effort of 195kg (90kg+105kg).
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships are also a qualifying event for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which will be held in Birmingham.
The gold medalists in each weight category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships will automatically qualify for the 2022 Games, while the others will be determined by Commonwealth rankings.
