In a bid to provide better passenger services, Indian Railways will soon introduce hostesses in its premium trains like Tejas Express, Gatimaan and Vande Bharat.
A senior official told that the decision to introduce the train hostesses were taken with an idea to provide better passenger facilities to the people travelling in those trains.
However, the official said it will not be a totally female crew, and instead, it will be a mixed with a male attendant also being inducted to provide the hospitality services to the passengers travelling in the premium trains of Indian Railways.
The official said that just like flights, there would be hostesses on the train and catering will also match the standard of airliners.
There are currently 25 premium trains operated by the Indian Railways which include one Tejas Express, two Vande Bharat, One Gatimaan and 12 Shatabdi.
While boarding the train, the train hostesses will greet passengers, serve food and listen to complaints.
Railway attendants will wear the same dress. Only those women will be recruited who are trained in the field of hospitality service.
Freshly cooked food will be served by the Indian Railways in Duronto, Tejas, Rajdhani, Gatimaan Express and Shatabdi trains.
All concerned departments and stakeholders have received the order in this regard.
The order said that the matter has been examined and it has been decided to resume cooking foods in trains.
The zonal railways will verify the catering charges and applicable rate list and enter the same in the PRS software,
