India Women Begin T20I Preparations After World Cup Success

  • Indian women’s cricket team commences training at BCCI Centre of Excellence
  • The squad is set to play a five-match T20 international series against Sri Lanka Women
  • The series begins on 21st Dec in Visakhapatnam

The Indian national women's cricket team has already begun their preparations for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, scheduled for December 21, following their victory at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup held at Navi Mumbai on 26th November.

The training will occur at a BCCI centre located in excellence and will involve most of the same players who competed in the World Cup.

The training sessions will also be conducted at the same centre over the next few days as preparations for Friday's game intensify.

Renuka Singh Thakur will return to the T20 squad after being ruled out of the previous England series due to an injury she suffered before that series.

19-year-old Vaishnavi Sharma will also make her national T20I debut after being crowned the tournament's leading wicket-taker and being named the winner in July.

India has an upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. This is India’s first opportunity to play after winning the ICC ODI Women's World Cup 2023.

This series forms part of India’s preparations for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 which takes place on 1st June 2026 in England and Wales. The last series that India played in T20Is was against England in July. India won the series 3–2.

India has a good record against Sri Lanka in T20Is with 20 wins from 26 matches played. The last time Sri Lanka beat India in a T20I match on Indian soil was back in 2014 when they won in Visakhapatnam, which is the venue for the first two matches of this series.
