India Wins The First-Ever Women's Four-Lawn Bowling Gold Medal

On Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the team of Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki, and Nayanmoni Saikia made history by winning the nation's first-ever medal (Gold) in the sport of Lawn Bowls by defeating South Africa (17-10) in the championship match at Victoria Park on Tuesday.
After the team's historic victory over New Zealand, team manager Anju Luthra had said, "Getting a medal is important because when we go back (to India), the federation always says 'what have you done?', so we want to prove that we are not less than any other game.”
The management further stated that it will provide the sport and its participants the recognition they so richly merit. And the occurrences have already begun.
After the four women won the Gold for India, Twitter erupted. Many well-known people expressed their congratulations to the players for their historic accomplishment on Twitter.
The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswas Sarma, congratulated the Lawn Bowls team on Twitter. He wrote, “Another Gold for India at #CommonwealthGames. Congratulations to Assam’s Nayanmoni Saikia and her team members who created history by winning the first ever medal for in Lawn Bowls (Women's Fours) in #CWG. Proud”
