  • The team was led by Deepika TC
  • This win comes after the country's recent victory in the women's ODI World Cup

India, with Deepika TC as captain, has won the first Women's T20 World Cup for the Blind, defeating Nepal by seven wickets. This is just after India won the Women's ODI World Cup.

Chasing 114/5, which Nepal had made, India scored 117/3 in just 12.1 overs at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium in Sri Lanka. The highest scorer for India was Phula Saren from Santhal village in Odisha, who made 44 off 27 balls.

Mahantesh Kivadasannavar, chairman of Cricket Association for the Blind in India and former blind cricketer, was there in Colombo and said that the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka presented the trophy and said it was a significant message for women's cricket in India. An event sponsor also announced that each player would get ₹1 lakh.

Mahantesh said that a number of the players on the team came from poor rural families, and had been introduced to cricket through blind schools, NGO projects and male state programs. He noted that in many of these communities, people were quite hesitant to allow girls to participate in sport.
