India Reaffirms Commitment to Women Development with Guatemala

  • India confirmed its commitment to furthering the partnership with Guatemala
  • Savitri discussed India's approach to women-led inclusive development

During a meeting at the Commission for Social Development in New York City, Savitri Thakur, Union Minister of State, and Her Excellency Claudia Teresa Valenzuela López, Vice Minister of Social Development, Guatemala reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthen its cooperation with Guatemala.

Through this meeting, the Minister included an overview of India's integrated approach to inclusive and Women's Empowerment led development, including social protection, education, health, nutrition, skills, digital empowerment and women's economic empowerment programs; including Self-Help Groups, Direct Benefit Transfers, PM POSHAN School Meals and Digital Public Infrastructure; and expressed India's readiness to partner with Guatemala on best practices.

Additionally, the Minister noted that India's support for the inclusion of Guatemala in ShakthiSAT, the Global STEM program for girls, was a strong example of their mutual commitment to advance and promote Gender Equity, Eradication of Poverty, Inclusive Economic Development and Multilateralism through the UN; and that they would partner together in Social Development, Women's Empowerment and Indigenous Peoples welfare.

As a generous expression of their strong commitment, the Minister took this opportunity to interact with members of the Indian Diaspora; encouraging them to actively engage in developing and implementing.
