- Indian women's team comes into the ODI World Cup with enhanced morale following a solid winning run
- The team was revealed by the women's panel headed by Neetu David
- Some of the main selection choices were the picking of opener Shafali Verma and pacer Renuka Thakur
India's recent string of wins has boosted team morale as the women's selection panel, headed by Neetu David, revealed the team for the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup 2025.
Though the selectors had some difficult decisions to make, pacer Renuka Singh Thakur has been named for the team but explosive opener Shafali Verma has been left out of the selection for the quadrennial tournament.
Justifying the selection, Neetu David added that while Shafali was part of the Australia A series and is still a key component of the system, the selectors are of the view that she requires more match practice and exposure so that she can adjust her game to 50-over cricket.
The selectors are keeping a close watch on her developments and anticipate her return stronger for upcoming ODI assignments.
Regular performers Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol have found a place, and Renuka Singh Thakur will lead the pace attack. Two youngsters, Kranti Gaud and Sree Charani, have also been given their dues for their exceptional performance in the recent England series.
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India in an ODI World Cup for the first time, with Smriti Mandhana as her vice-captain. The team has a mix of experienced campaigners and young talented players as India goes in pursuit of its first World Cup crown.
