  • Vibha Padalkar’s term as CEO of HDFC extended by 5 years from Sept 2026
  • Led key milestones including the 2017 IPO and financial growth since joining in 2008
  • Played a major role in a landmark insurance sector M&A deal

HDFC Life Insurance Co. Ltd has extended the time that Vibha Padalkar is able to work in her current role as the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a further five years.

The extension was made based on the Nomination and Remuneration Committee's recommendations for her continued service. The re-appointment will take effect from September 12, 2026, and will require approval from the insurance regulatory authority (IRDA), as well as from shareholders at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) coming up.

Since joining HDFC Life in 2008, Padalkar has taken on several leadership positions throughout her time at the company. Her contributions included bolstering the company's financial infrastructure as well as helping HDFC Life to be listed on the public market in 2017.

On September 12, 2018, she was initially appointed to serve a three-year term as the Managing Director and CEO of HDFC Life, taking over for Amitabh Chaudhry, presently the Managing Director and CEO at Axis Bank.

During Padalkar's time with the firm, she has been an important factor in building the company's financial architecture. Her leadership was instrumental in the company's successful listing in 2017 and in executing the first large merger and acquisition deal in the Indian life insurance industry. Both of these things helped define how this industry has changed and how well the company has done throughout all types of business cycles.
