  • A total of 36 women have begun specialized drone pilot training in the first batch
  • Women from both Karnal and Kurukshetra districts are being provided with training

The Haryana government's ‘Drone Didi’ programme commenced with the launch of specialist drone pilot training for the first batch of 36 women.

Participants from Karnal and Kurukshetra districts have been divided into two groups of 18 each and are undergoing training at Drone Imaging and Information Service of Haryana Limited (DRIISHYA), a state-supported organisation in Karnal.

Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner, and Additional CEO, DRIISHYA, has said that the program will enable the training of women in both the operation and maintenance of drones, thereby enabling them to build income-generation capabilities through the use of technology.

The initiative aims at training 5,000 women from 500 self-help groups (SHGs). Apart from DGCA-approved drone pilot certification, participants are being given practical training in the use of agricultural drones, including spraying pesticides, fertilisers and nano liquid nutrients, said Phool Kumar, CEO of DRIISHYA.

He further said that this is the first batch under the state’s project called ‘Drone Didi’, and Haryana is the first state in the country to launch such an initiative to support women's empowerment.
