Harjinder Kaur Wins CWG 2026 Women's 69kg Weightlifting Silver

Harjinder Kaur, an Indian weightlifter, was felicitated by the Union Minister of Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, for winning the silver medal in the women's 69kg category at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, UK in 2026.

Harjinder did exceptionally well and ended up winning with her all-time personal best lift of 227kg after lifting 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk category. However, Harjinder settled for the silver medal behind Charlotte Simoneau from Canada, who won the gold medal with her all-time personal best of 235kg.

The Indian weightlifter made a name for herself in the snatch event, as she notched up two Commonwealth Games records. After lifting 96kg without any problem, Harjinder improved upon the previous Games record when she managed to lift 99kg. She completed the phase with a lift of 101kg in her last effort, which established a new Games record.

Harjinder maintained her composure and kept increasing her lifts to put up a wonderful display of her career. It was because of this superb display that she found herself on her way to becoming a medalist in the clean and jerk event that was soon to begin. Harjinder started on a high note by lifting 120 kg.

A vital final lift from Charlotte helped her take the lead again and clinch the gold medal for herself, while Harjinder remarkable performance helped India bag another triumph in weightlifting at the Glasgow event. The record in the snatch and her best-ever overall lift in the Commonwealth Games made India proud of their talent in weightlifting.

The Indian weightlifter, who is now 28 years old and hails from Nabha, Punjab, is among the finest weightlifters of India due to her remarkable achievements in the international arena. The Indian weightlifter Harjinder clinched the silver medal in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, hence contributing towards the improvement of India's score in weightlifting, an area where India has excelled greatly in the past.

India’s outstanding performance at the 2026 CWG has brought in 12 medals, including two gold medals, seven silver medals, and three bronze medals for the nation. In addition to that, the following athletes have won the silver medals: Rishikanta Singh, Muthupandi Raja, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Sarvesh Kushare, Gulveer Singh, Harjinder Kaur, and Valluri Ajaya Babu.
