Guneet Monga Launches Mental Health Initiative for Women in Film

- WIF India will focus on the emotional wellbeing of women in the film industry
- A new initiative launched by the organization is “The Resilience Playbook.”
- It involves a six-week workshop series targeting women working in film
Due to the constant churn of rejection and increased pressure in the industry, personal care tends to be neglected.
WIF India would like to see this change, especially through their new initiative, "The Resilience Playbook" which is an intro workshop from WIF India featuring six weeks of training focused on helping women in the film sector take a moment for themselves through supportive connections and share their experiences with one another and their companies.
Over the course of six weeks, this will allow women filmmakers to grow emotionally, reconnect with their creativity, and develop a better sense of balance in their lives.
The increased emphasis on having conversations regarding burnout, mental health, and wellness makes this workshop an extremely important tool at this point in time as we continue to transition toward an approach of incorporating emotional sustainability as part of our core professional skills.
Led by a professional in wellness and life coaching, Chetna Chakravarthy, this workshop seeks to develop long-term growth, both personally and creatively rather than simply offering coping mechanisms. The workshop covers topics such as confidence, clarity, and self-worth.
While there has been an increase in conversation regarding women and opportunities for representation in the film industry, there still exist emotional hurdles created by the demanding nature of the film industry.
Women experiencing obstacles with systemic oppression navigate through even more hurdles than do the men in this industry who're required to work at long hours, on constantly changing schedules, and with an always-present sense of competition that can lead to physical exhaustion.
According to Guneet Monga Kapoor, Academy Award winning producer and co-founder of WIF India, it is important for women in a predominantly freelance-driven industry to have resiliency support systems so they are able to cope with the uncertainty surrounding them and remain viable in the industry for the long term.
She believes the development of this workshop will provide women with the skills necessary to do so, and that the support provided by WIF India will be important in helping to subsidize and match funds for maximum access.
Rabia Chopra, Head of Programmes & Development at WIF India, states the workshop is designed to allow participants to participate in a safe and open environment and empower them through the community by creating shared resiliency within their networks.
