  • The Labor Department orders adequate transportation facilities for Women Workers
  • Employed women workers on night shifts should share their consent in writing

Goa has granted women night shift work in shops, retail outlets, warehouses, and call centres, with strict safeguards and explicit consent. This move is part of a broader set of reforms aimed at improving business ease and promoting gender-inclusive employment. The labour department stated that the establishment must provide adequate transportation facilities for the worker.

The recently released notification permits women to work night shifts in select factories and manufacturing facilities, promoting economic participation without limitations, provided safety and dignity are ensured. It says, "Employment between the hours of 7 pm and 6 am shall be with the consent in writing of the concerned women workers."

The notification further states that CCTV cameras must be installed in work areas for women workers, and businesses must provide safe, secure, and healthy working conditions, ensuring no woman is 'disadvantaged in connection' with her employment.

Many women work night shifts in call centres, startups, departmental stores, casinos, eateries, and hotels, potentially benefiting industries like petrol pumps, retail stores, quick-service eateries, outsourcing firms, and tourism.
